Co-founder and practice director Anthony Worm has been a qualified architect since 2000 and registered architect since 2010, and in the past 18 years has been involved in a wide range of projects, coming to specialise in private residential and multi-res developments, institutional projects including schools, equine facility design, and master planning.

A true student of architecture, Anthony has written extensively on the subject and has been a course coordinator, lecturer and tutor in architecture design, city urban design and history, architecture history, and property development at Deakin University and The University of Melbourne for over 20 years.

Anthony‘s multidisciplinary role in Equitecture includes Concept Design, Master Planning, Documentation Control, Contract Administration and Cost Control. He also writes with Leonie and contributes to articles and interest pieces on the subject of facility design. He has a particular interest in the intersection of equine evolution and domestication and human anthropomorphic tendencies, and how architectural macro-conditions and design details can better respond in the effort of understanding the human-centric/equine-centric phenomenon. This often results in the development of innovative design detail solutions for each project, which celebrate the practical, the robust, and the beauty of the horse environment it was designed for.

Anthony is also the practice director of Architecture Etcetera, which specialises in private residential, multi-residential, institutional projects and master planning. This practice is the ‘work-horse’ behind Equitecture.

LEONIE LEE

Co-founder Leonie Lee has been a qualified architect since 1998. Her studies culminated in a design thesis on developing an equestrian centre for people with disabilities as well as the able-bodied. She wrote the first equine facilities course in Australia and has taught this over the past 17 years at Marcus Oldham College, Geelong. 

Since owning her first horse as a child, Leonie developed an interest in their characteristics and behaviour. Eventually she identified the need for current stabling models to be improved into a more positive environment for horses and people with the potential to include the application of scientific research into design. 

Through her writing, design consultancy, and lifelong experience with horses – including competitive riding and training – Leonie is committed to bridging the gap between science and practice, raising awareness on the value of well-designed built environments for horses. 

With her specialist knowledge Leonie has been described by leading equine veterinary scientist and behaviourist, Dr. Paul McGreevy, as a “very important link in the process of improving the welfare of the stabled horse.” 

Leonie’s role in Equitecture is centred on Research, Equine Industry Liaison, Project Briefing, Conceptual Design, and Master Planning. She has been a regular contributor to Horses and People Magazine, dedicating a series to facility (re)Design, and is the principal coordinator and manager of the Equitecture workshop and masterclass series, in an effort to educate others on the benefits of lateral thinking and innovative best practice in horse facility design in Australia and internationally.
